SOIL PREP

  • Clear the site of debris
  • Rough grade to eliminate drainage problems
  • Till to a depth of 4-6 inches
  • Add topsoil - organic matter
  • Have soil sample tested
  • Apply "starter fertilizer" - per recommendations
  • Finish grade

SOD INSTALLATION

  • Measure and order new sod
  • Soil prep
  • Sod installation
    • install sod immediately
      • start at longest straight line
      • offset seams in a brick like manner
    • roll the sod with a roller. (Ensuring root to soil contact)
    • water within 30 mins of sod installation

WATERING AND SOD CARE

  • 1" water within 30 mins of sod installation
  • Water two times daily - keep moist about 2 weeks
  • Water areas near buildings more often
  • After 2 weeks water less frequent and deeper watering to allow the roots to grow
  • Mow no more than 1/3 of grass height after a couple weeks

CAUTION

  • Avoid heavy or concentrated use of lawn for three weeks.  This gives the roots time to knit with the soil and the turf will remain smooth and level.

SOD CARE ONCE ESTABLISHED

  • Reduce your watering times for a maintenance type of setting
  • Avoid excessive use of nitrogen fertilizer
  • Generally best to fertilize in the spring and the fall
  • Maintain a higher mowing height during heat of summer to conserve water
